Regarding Charleston Firefighters

Our community has experienced an immense tragedy with the death of nine local firefighters, who died fighting a furniture store fire last evening. The loss of these brave men is difficult to comprehend, and is heartbreaking for everyone in the College of Charleston community. We feel a special kinship with these firefighters, three of whom were from the Coming Street Fire Station, which works closely on a regular basis with our campus Public Safety Office.

The nine courageous firefighters leave behind many grief-stricken family members. Donations to assist these families may be mailed to the City of Charleston, Families of Fallen Firemen Fund, P.O. Box 304, Charleston, SC 29402, or you may give your donation to this fund to the teller at any Bank of America location. I know you will join Jane and me in keeping the families of these nine heroic firefighters in our thoughts and prayers in the difficult times ahead.
